Countertop Polishing

After much anticipation, I could finally begin polishing of the two kitchen slabs that were discussed in the post "Concrete Countertop".

I knew this was going to be a messy job. So we tried to protect the terrace underneath as best we could.

Plenty of water was used, which coupled with concrete dust, was sprayed everywhere.

My new shoes were suffering, so extreme measures had to be taken.

As I went through the grades, an intresting patten was starting to appear.

The small rocks we used were coming through, which came up as a dark blue color.

Some dimples still exist in the slab, but i think the sealer will protect them.

The first slab was moved into place. I had left the polishing the edges until we moved it into place so I could get around it properly.

Now the mess had moved to the kitchen area. Luckily it was quite easy to wipe down.

That's me ruining my jeans

I smoothed off the sharp corners a little.

A lot of stone became visible at this corner, which looks good.

The polishing is complete on this slab.

I could do a finer polish, but it would make it it harder for the acid stain and sealer to absorb.

This picture is taken while the slab is wet. Its is almost like a mirror.

The sink will be installed as the last item.

The top of the second slab was again polished in place.

Before being moved to the kitchen area. Four of my workers struggled with its weight.

Now both are in place, I can polish the sides of the second slab.

Again, this slab is a little wet still.

But the reflections are impressive.

I rounded off the corner a little on this one as well.

There is a small gap between the slabs. I am currently debating weather to sand down one a little for a more smug fit.
