Stone Vegetable Patch

In this post, I would like to share with you some photos of a vegetable garden we made as part of a larger landscaping project.

Now an active vegetable garden, the attractive beds are producing well.

We began with a bit of a rocky wasteland. The gravel in the ditch to the left of the picture is the start of a french drain to help deal with the large rain fall this area recives.

A stone path ran along side the beds and to the garden shed. These pathways are discussed in greater detail in the post "Rock In Concrete"

Foundations for an L shaped wall are being laid. The wall will provide some privacy in case of future neighbours, but also some wind protection.

I added some pvc pipe to act as pipe chases so that I could feed the irrigation lines through the concrete foundation at a later date.

The foundation was actually a full seismic beam.

Here, we begin laying the blocks for the wall.

Concrete columns were added every so often for extra strength.

A cement repello was added when the blocking was finished.

Then we marked out, and began the creating individual beds.

All beds now completed, with some filled with purchased black soil.

The rocks used were all picked up from nearby.

A trim tile was added to the top, and the rest of the wall was painted with textured paint.

We added two columns of the trim tile to break up the length of wall.

Common gravel was added for the walkways around the beds.

Another line of stone was used as a border with the lawn.

I added two taps so that hoses could be easily connected.

The finished garden is now flourishing.
