Terrace Roof Design Ideas

I have not written on this blog for a while, but we have been busy, so I have some catching up to do.

This post is to show you some designs for a a terrace roof on an existing house. The client had been living in the property for some time and decided to cover an existing terrace with a new roof. He always said that it was a nusence as it was because the rain would easily pour into the windows when it rained because there was no overhang, and generally he wanted to enjoy his terrace and the views when the weather was bad.

So we talked about some designs, and I converted them into some models.

The open gable roof previously offered no protection from the weather.

The first design was a simple shed roof, sloping from the house out to the garden.

A number of columns would add some character

This would be a simple idea and easy to execute, it would also offer the most protection from the weather.

The second idea was a little more elaborate.

An open gable roof, would offer a much greater ceiling height and allow us to incorporate exposed beams. I was also suggesting a wooden ceiling for this design.

Although more interesting, and offering a much larger space inside, this design would be more expensive and offer less protection from the rain.

In the end, the first design was chosen.
