Casa AlyKat Garden Project

In this post, I would like to share some photos of some work we are doing as part of a landscaping project.

The clients plan to build a larger house on their property in the future, but for the moment they wanted to landscape the area around the guest house which had just been completed.

The property has an amazing view over the local town (when its not cloudy!).

Previously a coffee farm, there was already a lot of plant life which would need to be removed.

The clearing of the lot was done by the client's gardener, this was a necessity before beginning a design, as we needed to see properly what we were dealing with.

The entire lot had a general slope, but the slope was not uniform, and it was envisaged that some work would be needed to rectify this.

Generally, the idea was to have a mostly grassed garden, with pathways, flower beds and seating areas that would maximize the views.

The back hoes were brought in to level and clean up the land.

The difference was quite amazing.

Not only did they clean out all of the existing plant life.

They also solved the elevation issues, and we ended up with a uniform slope to the lot.

This would now eliminate the need for retaining walls.

After the lot was cleared and we had agreed a general plan we proceeded with the irrigation system.

Of course, the rains came.

We dug the trenches by hand. This was relatively easy, as the soil up here had very few rocks in it.

Of course the back hoes exposing the raw soil coupled with the rain, meant we had a very muddy site.

Here are the first pipes for the irrigation system.

This project would be served by eight zones. Here we see piping for five of the solenoids.

This is a copy of one of the draft plans for the project.

I will continue with this project in a following post.
